Adolescent Child Specialty Services (ACSS) offers specialized psychological
assessment and treatment services for youth. Whether your preschooler is exhibiting severe tantrums, your first grader
is struggling to read, or your teenager is experiencing depression, ACSS can provide the knowledge, support and direction
you need to help your child overcome their difficulties.
In working with children and adolescents, it is important to consider all aspects of their
world in the assessment and treatment process. Therefore, each initial appointment begins with a thorough interview
of your child's medical, developmental, behavioral, emotional, and academic history. When possible, extended family
members and school personnel are encouraged to participate in therapeutic recommendations, to facilitate a more rapid improvement
in the child's daily functioning.
ACSS recognizes that parents take assessment outcomes and treatment recommendations very seriously,
and that it can often be difficult to know "the right thing" to do for your child. Special care is made to complete
comprehensive evaluations in order to bolster parents confidence in the dignosis made, and in their subsequent choice of treatment
strategies. The diagnostic process is taken very seriously at ACSS, and testing services are available if ADHD, Learning
Disabilities, or other processing difficulties are suspected.
ACSS focuses on meeting the needs of children and adolescents. Because there are relatively
few child psychologists available in this area, treatment services are largely limited to individuals under
the age of 18 (though exceptions are sometimes made in the context of meeting family needs, and under specific other circumstances).
